This itinerary can be used as is or modified with your feedback to create the travel experience that matches your preferences and interests.

Day 1: Chiang Rai
Morning arrival. Afternoon visit Wat Rong Khun, also known as the “White Temple”  and Wat Phra Keo, the best known of the Northern temples.  It once housed the Emerald Buddha.

Day 2-3: Cruise to Luang Prabang
Enjoy a leisurely cruise down the Mekong. Delicious buffet lunches served on board. Stops along the way at Lao, Hmong, Yao and K’Hmu villages offer the opportunity to sample rural life. Overnights at lodges.

Day 4-6: Luang Prabang
Visit Pak Ou Caves and the exquisite temples of Luang Prabang. Experience the peaceful Lao lifestyle at several villages and visit Kuang Si Waterfall.

Day 7-8: Phonsavan/The Plain of Jars
A slow journey along mountain roads with stunning views of the forested mountains, lush valleys and karst formations. The Plain of Jars is one of Asia's most unusual sites. The jars are thought to be over 2,000 years old but their origins remain a mystery.

Day 9-10: Vientiane
Tour the National Museum, the most outstanding Wats and monuments. Excursion to Buddha Park.

Day 11: Savannakhet
A mid-point stop, we'll enjoy sites along the way. Savannakhet has a number of French colonial and Franco-Chinese buildings.

Day 12-13: Tad Lo - Pakse
Explore the region, rich in natural beauty including Tad Lo Falls. Enroute to Pakse, visit Katu and Alak Villages, distinctive for the face tattoos of their women. We’ll stop at markets and coffee and cardamom plantations.

Day 14-15:  Four Thousand Islands
Enroute visit Wat Phou, the finest example of Khmer temple ruins outside Cambodia. Enjoy a full day cruising to Don Khong, Don Det Island & Don Khone Islands. We disembark to explore the main villages.

Day 16: Return to Pakse
From Don Khong, we cross the Mekong by ferry and continue by vehicle to the spectacular Khon Phapheng Falls, the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia. Elephant ride from Ban Khiat Ngong village (known for its unique textiles) to Phou Asa village.

Day 17: Preah Vihear - Bangkok
Visit magnificent Preah Vihear, pending accessibility. Fly to Bangkok and overnight at airport hotel.

Day 18: Depart
