Travel in Mongolia through unspoiled landscapes, exploring some of the most remarkable and untouched parts of the globe. Take part in the Golden Eagle Festival in Mongolia’s beautiful western province. This colorful event includes many great traditions and customs of the Kazakh people of Western Mongolia. Watch the royal Golden Eagles fly through the sky in an unforgettable aerial ballet. In order to maintain the event as a festival for the local people and offer our clients a truly intimate experience, our group size is limited to a maximum of eight travelers. You will interact with the Kazakhs and live with them for several days as you watch the eagle training and discover the culture of Kazakh people. You will also live for two days with nomad families of Uriankhai ethnic group whose culture is very different from the Kazakhs, observing and getting involved in some of their daily activities. This region of Mongolia is one of the few places remaining in the world where one can immerse in a culture completely unaffected by tourism and development.

ITINERARY

Day 1-2: Meet in Ulanbaatar
Visit the National Museum of Mongolian History, Gandan Monastery, and Zanabar Gallery. Enjoy traditional art performance and dinner. This is a lively city!

Day 3-5: Bayan - Ulgii Province
Prepare for some exciting action! Attend opening ceremony and parade of participants on horse with their eagles. The competition begins with each Kazakh displaying his hunting outfit and accessories. Other competitions include: the eagles evaluated for their speed and agility returning to owner upon signalling, the eagles judged on their success of grabbing the “fox”, their speed, and “gripping” technique. Enjoy a Kazakh concert of traditional songs and dances.

Day 6-7: Kazakh settlements
Immerse deeply into their culture by living with Kazakh families in their setllement. Enjoy their hospitality and friendliness. See their traditional method of making colorful rugs.

Day 8-9: Uriankhai settlements
We will stay with Mongolian nomad families of Uriankhai ethnic group. Learn about their culture, which is totally different from Kazakhs. We will observe and be involved in some of their daily activities. Enjoy optional half day horse riding.

Day 10: Ulanbaatar
Return to Ulaanbaatar.
